The Connecticut River Challenge is an annual paddling event created to inspire adventure, leadership, perseverance, and community — while supporting the youth-led program of Venture Crew 261.
It's more than just miles on the water. It's an invitation to challenge yourself alongside neighbors, friends, and fellow adventurers — and to help create outdoor experiences that shape the next generation of young leaders.
We're a youth-led Scouting America Venturing Crew based in Suffield, Connecticut. Our members come from towns across the state — from Suffield all the way to Brooklyn — because distance should never stop someone from finding their crew.
Crew 261 gives young people (14–20) real opportunities to plan and lead the kind of adventures they actually want to have.

The Connecticut River Challenge began with a simple question around a campfire: what if the adventure itself could fund the next one?
Our Crew wanted something bigger than a bake sale — an event that would test us, bring our community together, and become a tradition that future Venturers could inherit. The Connecticut River, running right through our backyard, felt like the obvious answer. Thirty-five miles of moving water, three distance options, one shared finish line.
What starts on the water in 2027 is meant to keep going — funding trips, gear, scholarships, and adventures for the Crew members who come after us.
Registrations, sponsorships, and community support directly fund the programs that make Venture Crew 261 possible — from weekend camping to life-changing high-adventure trips.
Multi-day expeditions that push young people beyond what they thought possible — from big-water paddling to backcountry treks.
Real skills learned outside: navigation, wilderness first aid, Leave No Trace, and stewardship of the places we explore.

For our Crew, it's home water — a river we can train on, respect, and share. Bald eagles, herons, and osprey overhead. Cool green banks on either side. Enough distance to challenge every paddler, enough beauty to make every mile feel earned.
